Wonderflex ®
Wonderflex is a unique molding material which comes in the form of a plastic sheet and contains its own adhesive. When heated it becomes soft, allowing it to be molded and shaped by hand, mold or block. It can also be stretched on the bias to form many shapes. Once cooled it retains the molded shape which has superior strength and flexibility yet is lightweight. Both sides of the Wonderflex sheet become sticky when heated, it has a ‘smooth’ and ‘scrim’ side, the smooth side is stickiest. Fabrics and materials can be stuck to one or both sides of the sheet. It can be cut with scissors, also painted or decorated with a variety of artisan coatings once set.
Wonderflex becomes mouldable when heated to temperatures over 70-80ºC. To activated use a dry heat such as a hairdryer or heat gun. Heat guns are the most popular method as they allow the most control. Once heated, it remains soft for 2-3 minutes and can also be reheated and remoulded.
Applications include: millinery head pieces, costuming, lightweight craft reinforcement, theatre props and set design, craft work, taxidermy, puppetry, sculptures, and more.
