Esparterie - imported direct from Japan. As used by Phillip Treacy.
Spartre/Sparterie/Espartre/Willow (it is known by many names) was the most widely used foundation material used in millinery. The original product was made from willow, it is now almost impossible to come by and is extremely expensive as it is not being produced anymore.
This product is made from paper and it allows you to create molds or templates for hat blocks or use it as a foundation fabric much like you would use buckram. Esparterie is easier to work with than buckram and will produce a better finish.
